The Memorial

Located on the State Capitol grounds, the memorial will serve as Minnesota’s first permanent tribute to EMS professionals who died in the line of duty.

Concept artwork of a proposed memorial site with a tree, a building structure with design elements, and a blue medical symbol in front of the building, set in an outdoor landscape with mountains and a cloudy sky.

The Minnesota EMS Memorial will be built on the State Capitol’s Lower Mall — a location formally approved and allocated by the State of Minnesota this summer (2026).

This site offers a place of reflection, remembrance, and gratitude in the heart of our state’s civic landscape.

Design Visuals & Materials

Designed with Minnesota‑sourced materials to reflect strength, resilience, and connection to place, e.g.:

  • Superior sandstone, Mankato or Rochester limestone, and central Minnesota granite

  • An etched outline of Minnesota, with the state seal

  • A white line of marble or light, symbolizing EMS

  • Granite panels engraved with honoree names

  • A reflective courtyard, creating space to gather, remember, and honor the fallen

Honoring Minnesota’s Fallen EMS Heroes

At the heart of the memorial will be the names of Minnesota’s EMS personnel who died in the line of duty. Each name represents a life dedicated to service — and a family, agency, and community forever changed. The memorial will provide a permanent place for reflection, remembrance, and recognition of their sacrifice.

The memorial has an approved site and is now moving through the formal design and engineering phase, guided by architectural partners and state review processes. All construction and long‑term maintenance will be funded through private donations.

Concept artwork and design elements represent the current proposed vision and may evolve as the project advances through state review and development.
