Foundation Update: National Spotlight on Minnesota’s EMS Memorial Effort

Published June 6th 2025

The MN State EMS Line of Duty Death (LODD) Memorial Foundation was recently featured in an article by Journal of Emergency Medical Services (JEMS), highlighting our ongoing work to establish Minnesota’s first permanent memorial honoring EMS professionals who died in the line of duty.

The article outlines the Foundation’s progress, design vision, and growing statewide and national support. From securing nonprofit status to designing a symbolic tribute on Capitol grounds, our mission is gaining momentum.

Key points from the JEMS article include:

  • Addressing a Recognition Gap: Unlike police and fire, EMS currently has no memorial at the Minnesota State Capitol. This project will complete the state’s public safety memorials.

  • Design Elements: Planned to feature Minnesota stone, engraved names, white marble or illumination symbolizing EMS, and inclusion of Tribal Nation seals.

  • Organizational Leadership: Led by EMS veteran Adam Harvey, the Foundation operates under the motto: “Honoring the Sacrifice, Supporting the Legacy.”

  • Broad Support: Endorsements from IAEP, Allina Health, the Minnesota Nurses Association, the Minnesota Ambulance Association, HCAPE, and others.

  • Fundraising Progress: Over $13,000 has been raised to date through individual donations, union support, and grassroots efforts.

  • Public Engagement: A letter-writing campaign and public comment period have helped build the case for final approval from the Capitol Area Architectural and Planning Board (CAAPB).
